This position provides general repair and maintenance on all District vehicles, apparatus, vessels and equipment. The 2020 monthly salary range is $5,925 to $6,622 (depending on experience). Controls over work: The position shall report to and is accountable to the Fleet Manager. Performance is evaluated by the Fleet Manager through observation of daily activities, program effectiveness and degree of harmony with citizens, co-workers and vendors. The position will work a schedule in accordance with contractual agreement.
The position shall: Perform inspections and necessary preventive maintenance of all District vehicles in accordance with District and manufacturers' requirements, and nationally recognized good practices. Perform repairs to automotive electrical components, brakes, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems; while applying diagnostic procedures in the performance of such work. Obtain a Commercial Driver's License endorsement within six months of hire. Maintain and repair small gas motors, fire service tools and equipment. Perform custodial work such as sweeping, cleaning, washing, dusting and polishing for maintaining work areas and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly condition. Keep the Fleet Manager informed as to maintenance conditions of vehicles, equipment and facilities. Assist with managing required District maintenance records on all vehicles. Respond off-duty, when directed, for emergency repairs. Purchase required items in accordance with District policies, operational guidelines and budget controls. Attend meetings and training sessions, as required by local, state, and contractual requirements. Perform related duties as assigned.
The position shall have demonstrated the ability and/or skill to effectively: Diagnose mechanical problems, defects and recognize potential failures. Cut, weld and solder applicable metals for reshaping with reference to light repairs and/or rearrangement of certain District vehicles for better operations. Maintain technical knowledge of automotive and truck diesel and gasoline engines, fuel systems, drive train components, positive displacement and centrifugal pumps, valves, controls theory and design, electrical theory and application, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, brakes, steering, suspension, cooling systems and automotive apparatus design. Assist with monitoring parts and supplies availability, quality and pricing. Organize and accomplish work assignments with minimal supervision Communicate in the English language, both orally and in writing. Use tact and courtesy with visitors, citizens, co-workers, outside organizations, agencies and individuals. Utilize District computer systems to effectively communicate and manage maintenance records. Travel between various worksites as necessary to fulfill the needs of the District.

Minimum: High school diploma or equivalent Two years minimum experience in repair and maintenance of diesel and gasoline powered automotive apparatus Valid Washington State driver's license Desired: Completion of a training program in diesel and/or automotive maintenance and repair at a recognized state accredited trade school or community college; including Automotive Service Excellence certifications. The position shall have the demonstrated physical ability to: Frequently lift, pull, hoist and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift, pull, hoist and move objects weighing over 100 pounds. Stand on concrete floors for long periods of time. Bend, reach, crawl, kneel, climb and assume a variety of awkward positions in order to access all areas of the District's vehicles, equipment and facilities for maintenance and repair operations. Inspect and observe the operation and condition of the District's vehicles, equipment and facilities before, during and after maintenance and repair operations. Possess acceptable auditory and visual senses to meet the requirements of the job.
