SUMMARY:
The Outreach Specialist is responsible for Health Promotions marketing and outreach activities. This position is primarily funded by the Tobacco Cessation program. This position works to plan, develop, and implement various activities aimed at improving awareness and participation in tobacco cessation, education, and treatment. This is a full-time position, with 80% of time devoted to tobacco cessation activities. The remaining time is to be spent on marketing and other outreach activities for the department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
? Plan, develop, and implement awareness activities for tobacco cessation including health fairs
? Coordinate within the department and other tribal departments to promote these plans and activities
? Provide tobacco use education and educational activities to tribal members and employees
? Coordinate and attend regularly scheduled meetings with stakeholders to review tobacco cessation activities, goals, and plans
? Create marketing and outreach digital campaigns for tobacco cessation
? Attend at least 2 specific trainings and 2 non-specific trainings related to tobacco cessation as well as achieving certification in various applicable programs
? Assist the Director with budget and reporting for the Tobacco Cessation grant
? Coordinate with Health Promotion with HHS staff to plan, promote, and participate in outreach events such as health fairs
? Provide content for social media and submit newsletter updates for various HHS departments
? Order promotional items from suppliers and other supporting vendors (IHS, NPIHB, etc.)
? Other duties as required

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in a health related field OR an Associate’s Degree in a health related field and 2 years providing health education/disease prevention services OR High School Diploma and 4 years providing health education/disease prevention services. Preferred experience working in a community health care program that serves Tribal or Urban Indian community.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical manuals and patient records.
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, co-workers, and public groups.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to understand mathematical concepts such as statistics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Basic accounting skills.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several concrete variables. Must have the ability to work with and relate to individuals from various socio-economic backgrounds. Must understand the ethical implications and patient confidentiality issues involved in this line of work, particularly in a small community. Must understand and accept their relationship and boundaries with patients and other staff members.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must successfully pass a background check. Must have a current Washington State Driver’s license and be insurable under the Tribe’s plan.
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: Due to the nature of this position, the applicant must be Tobacco Free. This includes cigarettes, chewing tobacco, and e-cigarettes/vaping.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS: The hours usually scheduled to work align with HHS hours. However, this position requires some flexibility including weekend and evening hours to attend various outreach activities.
