TS Range: 5/6 ($18.56)
Time Status: 20 hours a week

SUMMARY: This temporary position performs a variety of maintenance related tasks including grounds and garden maintenance, cleaning and routine building maintenance and repair, vehicle, water and septic system maintenance and performs a variety of small construction projects. This position performs general, preventative and emergency maintenance. Certain tasks require this position to utilize small power equipment. This position assists the Facility operations Manager in a variety of tasks and monitors the safety and appropriateness of the grounds and equipment to maintain a safe environment.
This position interacts with co-workers and external agencies demonstrating DBT skills to assure necessary information sharing and consistent practice. This position may be assigned training of new personnel. Weekend and evening shifts may be required; on-call responsibilities required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Maintenance Assisting Duties:
- Provide grounds and landscaping maintenance such as mowing, watering grass and plants, removing and controlling weeds, removing, planting and replanting shrubs and trees, sweeping walkways, clearing land, snow removal, clearing moss of the roof, clearing debris and trash disposal.
- Moving and arranging furniture, painting, receiving supplies and transports to proper location or stores, assisting other staff with movement of items outside of their capacity. Performs custodial tasks as necessary.
- Assist the facility operations manager with a number of functions in maintaining water/sewer systems, fire suppression systems, fire drills, emergency backup systems; monitoring facility related contracts and permit application and maintains the building to DOH standard, adheres to appropriate policies.
- Safely operate tractors, mowers, power tools and other equipment.
- Completes various construction and maintenance projects.
- Follows all safety procedures in accordance with DOH and NWITC standards.
- Repairs leaking toilets, faucets and pipes; clear plugged drain lines; solders plumbing joints.
- Completes carpentry repairs, making small items such as cabinets, carts.
- Completes electrical repairs: replace lighting fixtures, repair wiring, outlets, heaters, furnace; repair common electrical problems.
- Assure that vehicles are safe to operate and filled with gas and oil, inspects all vehicles monthly to ensure that all safety requirements per policy is met. Submit monthly gas receipts and mileage to finance, ensures staff is properly documenting travel.
- Maintains all machinery to ensure it is at working standards.
- Is available during weather and other emergencies to trouble-shoot solutions, contact contractors or arrive at the facility to resolve major problems.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, calendar of planned activities and goals.
- Maintain boundaries appropriate for the environment: doesn’t touch patients, doesn’t develop personal relationships with patients; doesn’t visit with them except in brief interactions outside the role of safety training and direction.
- Consistently demonstrates DBT skills in communication with coworker, external partners, patients and alumni.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

- Must not be under current investigation by the Department of Health or found in noncompliance with DOH ethical standards.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associates of Art Degree plus one year relevant experience OR High School Diploma or GED and three years of relevant experience. OR five years of relevant experience. Experience working with Native Americans is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Able to manage demanding groups and individuals skillfully and appropriately demonstrating DBT skills.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a current, valid Washington State Driver’s License. The successful applicant must pass a criminal history background check. Must be insured by the Tribe’s insurance carrier. Must complete TB test and CPR training.

The employee must regularly lift up to 25 pounds, frequently lift up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift more than 100 pounds. This position also requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles; frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration; and must occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, work in high, precarious places, and work in outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), and run the risk of electrical shock. The noise level of this position is moderate.
This position requires the use of cleaning products that may contain caustic chemicals. Employees are required to use vinyl or latex gloves and eye protection when using cleaning products. The noise level and vibration is associated with operating vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers and motor vehicles.
OTHER: Knowledge of industry recommended cleaning methods is desirable. The job requires the ability to work independently with limited supervision as well as part of a team. Regular and consistent attendance is a condition of employment. The employee must deal courteously with public, patients, and staff. Applicants who have been a patient of the NWITC programs must have completed behavioral health services for a minimum of six months and should have six months of sustained recovery. TB test, HIV/AIDS training, CPR and First Aid course required
