SUMMARY:
Works under the director of the Northwest Indian Treatment Center. Participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for NWITC patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Other duties may be assigned.)
- Ensure appropriate admissions including obtaining information regarding patient’s health and mental health. Review referral packet to include medical history, physical and all lab work.
- Identify patients who will require ongoing medical care after admissions and assist with appropriate referrals and follow up care. Interact with regular pre-admissions medical care providers as appropriate.
- Coordinate and document medical care.
- Arrange transportation for admissions, discharges and medical appointments as appropriate.
- Stores inappropriate medications as per NWITC Policy. Disposes of medications as appropriate as per NWITC policies and DOH requirements.
- Develop a medication sheet for each patient and review weekly to ensure medication provided is correct and documentation is thorough.
- Provide each patient with a medical discharge plan and send a copy to the on-going provider.
- Interact with psychiatric nurse practitioner to coordinate psychotropic medication assessments and reviews. Including chart review to ensure ARNP documentation is complete and timely.
- Ensure prescribed medication are received in a timely manner.
- Develop ongoing productive relationships with local pharmacies so patient medication needs are met. Order non prescribed medications identified on the “standing orders” protocol.
- Interacts with clinical team and treatment attendants to ensure all appropriate employees have relevant information regarding patient care.
- Communicate any changes in medication which may impact patient progress.
- Attend weekly staff meetings.
- Informs Director or Clinical Coordinator of any problems potential or actual which affect the safety of health of patients and staff.
- Maintains strict confidentiality regarding patient/client information.
- Leaves detailed notes for NWITC nurse regarding any medical issues that clients had while filling in.
- Collects lab specimens and reviews results with patients as necessary.

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Demonstrated proficiency in clinical assessments documentation and compliance with nursing care and policies and procedures.
- Must not be under current investigation by the Department of Health or found in noncompliance with DOH ethical standards unless successfully participating in a correction program with DOH and the Squaxin Island Tribe is in agreeance.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors of Science degree in nursing and two years relevant experience OR Associates degree in nursing and be certified to work in Washington State as an LPN or RN and have four years relevant experience OR High School diploma and be certified to work in Washington State as an LPN and have six years of relevant experience. Experience providing direct care to chemically dependent patients preferred. Previous work with Native Americans is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to a prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Current LPN license to practice in Washington State. Current CPR/ First Aid Certification, current CEU’s.

Applicants who have been a patient of the NWITC programs must have completed services for a minimum of two years and should have three years of sustained recovery
