SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Community Garden Manager the Garden Production Supervisor provides collaborative oversight to the onsite staff in the day to day operations of the garden. Ensuring program goals and objectives are met based on the established timelines. Organizing workflow in a fast paced environment focused on production and sustainability. With an emphasis on staff training and development. Providing outreach and promoting community use of the garden.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provides onsite supervision, daily goals, and training to Garden Technicians as well as the garden apprentices, and volunteers with input and guidance from Manager.
- Direct supervisor to staff members within all areas of Squaxin Tribal Garden; Medicine Wheel Garden, Berry Field, Orchards, Elder’s Garden, and First Foods Trail.
- Primary operator of tractor, and other heavy duty equipment.
- Maintains records of all garden production activities including planting, harvesting, food distribution, soil amendments, and maintenance schedules for equipment.
- Develops and implements sustainable organic practices of fertilization and pest control specific to the greenhouse, orchards, berry field, and vegetable gardens.
- Provides a planting plan and schedule specific to the seasons within the Northwest Region.
- Trains staff in proper handling of equipment, composting, weeding, fertilization, care of fruiting shrubs or trees, greenhouse maintenance, transplanting, and general care of new starts.
- Orders supplies, tools, and equipment necessary to the work.
- Conducts bi annual soil analysis, tests and monitors pH levels within the soil and water.Collaborate with Program Manager to:
- Present and/or attend seminars to speak about the Squaxin Island Tribal Garden.
- Develop and meet outcome based goals, measurements of success, garden layout, and community outreach plans.
- Address and correct issues related to garden production, harvesting, and implementation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant must have demonstrated experience in the following areas:
- Running large machinery such as a tractor or other gardening equipment.
- Experience with and a desire to train and develop entry level staff.
- Previous experience with soil analysis process.
- Thorough knowledge of plant diseases and proper treatment
- Experience working collaboratively on program objectives.
- Experience working with a Tribal community.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma and 4 years of relevant work experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interests, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
