SUMMARY:
Provide direct, comprehensive general dental care and education to eligible Squaxin Island Tribal patients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(Other duties may be assigned)
- Perform annual exams to diagnose dental diseases.
- Provide general dental care services to correct or treat dental diseases and deficiencies.
- Provide urgent care services to patients to relieve pain, bleeding, and swelling.
- Make referrals to appropriate sources for specialized care and monitor through follow-up.
- Provide dental health education to patients, families, and Squaxin Island Clinic staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Graduate from an accredited school of dentistry and a current license to practice dentistry.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Sensitivity to and knowledge of Native American customs, traditions, and culture. In-depth knowledge of dental restorative, endodontic, and oral surgery practices/procedures. Proficient in application techniques for crowns and bridges. Knowledge of general office procedures. Able to perform child and adult prophys, OHI, fluoride treatments, and placement of sealant and rubber dams. Able to interact courteously and professionally with patients of all ages. Knowledge of current home care instructions and ability to communicate them effectively to patients.
MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND/OR OFFICE MACHINERY UTILIZED:
Standard office equipment and computer programs. Standard dental operatory equipment and instruments, including various hand pieces, dental x-ray units, x-ray developer, autoclave, and ultrasonic.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
License to practice dentistry in the State of Washington and current certification in CPR.
