Starting Wage: $26.77 to $29.50 per hour DOQ
This is a .75 FTE position (28 hours per week)
Position Summary: The Program Coordinator for the Comprehensive Cancer Control Program (CCCP) is responsible for the overall management, coordination, and quality assurance for an intertribal project funded by a Center for Disease Control (CDC) 5-year grant. The Program Coordinator organizes relevant project activities, seeks partnerships with key stakeholders, and provides support to the community-based CCCP Advisory Committee. The position is located at the Intertribal Professional Center on the Squaxin Island Reservation near Shelton, WA.
Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative and program coordination and fiscal oversight to the project in accordance with the program goals, objectives, and work plan activities.
- Promote policy, systems and environmental (PSE) change as a way of modifying the environment to make healthy choices practical and available to tribal community members.
- Assist in annual strategic planning and setting program goals, objectives and evaluation measures in accordance with PSE guidelines.
- Work with the program evaluator to ensure that developing program interventions are in accordance with PSE guidelines.
- Act as the subject matter expert for the CCCP and community, communicating routinely with coalition members, partners, and staff from other CDC-funded cancer programs, as well as chronic disease prevention and health promotion programs to present a clear and consistent vision of what needs to be accomplished to increase cancer prevention.
- Work with tribal stakeholders to determine and address common priorities for cancer control and achieve grant deliverables.
- Schedule and lead activities for the CCCP Advisory Committee comprised of community members of consortium tribes. Provide technical assistance and administrative support to the committee.
- Identify program delivery concerns, issues and options.
- Schedule, coordinate, attend, or facilitate meetings, trainings, intertribal communications, and conferences involving stakeholders and partners.
- Supervise data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Oversee development, production, and distribution of outreach materials and functions.
- Monitor project budget, approve expenditures, and submit modifications and justifications per grant deliverables and SPIPA’s Grant/Contract Management policy.
- Perform periodic program quality improvement/quality assurance reviews with staff.
- Prepare for approval required written reports and subsequent grant applications for project sustainment.
- Maintain contracts and other support agreements as necessary.
- Act as a liaison among grantor staff, tribal program staff and SPIPA program and support staff.
- Provide written and oral presentation of grant accomplishments when requested and approved by SPIPA.
- Other duties as assigned.
The Program Coordinator-Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, as an employee of the South Puget Intertribal Planning Agency, is expected to collaborate, engage, and work closely with all SPIPA programs to fully support the agency’s Vision, Mission, and Core Values in accordance with all agency directives.
Minimum Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Public Health, Human Services or related field with one (1) professional work experience in community health, family or social services; or
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Human Services, Social Sciences, or related field with at least three (3) years professional work experience in community health, family or social services, or
- Associate’s Degree in Health, Human Services or related field with five (5) years appropriate work experience, or
- Comparable combination of education, training, and professional work experiences.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Documented experience in data collection and management.
- Strong computer skills with at least three years of experience using Microsoft Office package, including Word and Excel or comparable software experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-culturally with Native American individuals and communities or comparable culturally diverse groups.
- Knowledge of rural health and social services issues and programs preferred.
- Excellent writing, organization, and oral communication skills required.
- Ability to travel throughout SPIPA consortium tribal areas and to attend other pertinent events, as needed.
- Must pass a background investigation including relevant criminal history, and a pre-employment drug test.
- Valid driver’s license.
Physical Abilities: Bending at the waist; sitting for extended periods of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard; hearing and speaking to exchange information; seeing to read reports and data; lifting medium objects generally less than 20 pounds. Occasional travel to consortium tribe locations and selected conferences and trainings. Ability to safely and legally operate a motor vehicle.
Salary/Fringe Benefits: This position has a range of SPIPA 9/10 (starting at $26.77 to $29.50 per hour with compensation depending on qualifications (based on 28 hours weekly). Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance and agency contribution to a retirement program.
