The Dean of the Library and Learning Resources serves as the chief administrative officer of the O’Grady Library and provides leadership, strategic vision, and effective management of all programs, services, and collections.
The Dean of the Library supervises a staff of three librarians, three regular staff, and over 25 students, as well as the emerging Learning Commons. The Library supports undergraduate and graduate students and faculty in their studies and research.
This position requires a passion for teaching and learning and a commitment to the highest values in academic leadership and professional conduct. The dean will collaboratively set a strategic direction for the O’Grady Library, manage and generate financial resources to support and enhance library services and resources, and represent the library and university effectively in regional, national and global venues, including active participation in one of the nation’s largest and most innovative library consortia—the Orbis Cascade Alliance. The dean will promote greater collaboration among the library, the Center for Student Learning, Writing, and Advising, and other academic centers or offices on campus that focus on student learning. The dean will also support the creation of an institutional repository to disseminate university scholarship.
The dean is responsible for day-to-day operational management of the library: budgeting, acquisitions, building management, personnel development, and other tasks to ensure the library’s continued stability and seamless functioning. Finally, the dean participates in instruction and collection development as a library liaison to selected academic departments. The Dean of the Library reports directly to the Provost and serves on the Provost Council and other university committees.
Required Qualifications:
- An MLS from an ALA accredited institution
- Five years of experience in positions of leadership in an academic library
- Excellent communication skills
- Support for the Catholic, Benedictine mission of the university
Desired Qualifications:
- A second graduate degree in a discipline relevant to the university
- Experience with learning commons or learning resource centers based in the library
- Experience with institutional repositories
