Safety is the number one priority for Puget Sound Energy. This position requires participation in safety and tailgate meetings, performing safety inspections, identification and reporting of safety incidents and unsafe conditions, obtaining and maintaining required licenses and certifications and participation in emergency response drills.
This position holds responsibility for gas safety compliance with PSE's Gas Operating Standards and Gas Field Procedures when engaged in operating, maintaining, constructing or engineering PSE's natural gas system. Perform general work as directed. Drive and operate equipment as qualified. Perform similar and incidental duties as required. Should be readily available for call outs to respond to emergencies. Achieve and maintain proficiency in current and new technologies.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction and oversight of qualified Jackson Prairie Operator, the Gas Worker trainee will:
Learn to operate the Jackson Prairie Gas Storage facility, including system operation and maintenance
· Perform testing and inspections
· Investigate system issues
· Monitor system performance
· Complete and pass all assigned Operator Qualification (OQ) requirements
Assist, as qualifications and training allows, in construction and maintenance work
· Perform associated pre-work, preventative maintenance and general clean-up.
· Assist in installation/maintenance/removal of equipment and fittings to maintain systems
Operate motor vehicles in a safe, professional, and courteous manner in accordance with Company Policy Manual requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
· Applicant must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
· Must have working knowledge of the fundamentals of Gas as it pertains to utility systems.
· Must have proven ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
· Must be able to demonstrate mechanical aptitude.
· Must have basic knowledge of mathematics.
· Must have the ability to communicate effectively with others and respond to public inquiries or concerns.
· Must maintain necessary certifications and licenses, and have a working knowledge of all Company standards, practices, policies, procedures, safety regulations, codes and State regulations as they pertain to the job.
· Must possess a valid driver's license. This position may require the applicant to have and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) including necessary endorsements and removal of air brake restriction.
· Must be able to comply with safety sensitive components of the DOT Pipeline Operator Regulations
Prior to performing all assignments of the position unobserved, the applicant must become fully qualified in all Operator Qualification (OQ) tasks required for the position of Operator - Gas Storage Jackson Prairie an as defined in PSE's Operator Qualification Plan and must remain current in all Operator Qualifications required for the position.
The Gas Storage Worker Trainee must complete and pass all assigned Operator Qualification (OQ) requirements within twenty-four (24) months of date of hire. A Gas Storage Worker Trainee who is unable to pass any portion of the OQ requirements, or fails to complete OQ requirements within twenty-four (24) months, shall be separated from the position at managements discretion.
JOB CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT
The duties and responsibilities are performed indoors and in outdoor environments which include all weather conditions, noise levels, hazardous conditions and the full range of work surfaces. The position involves sitting, standing, walking, moderate to heavy lifting, moderate carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, twisting, balancing, climbing, and operation of equipment, tools, machinery and computer operation. The use of protective clothing and/or safety devices may be required. Requires driving of Company vehicle.
· DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Washington State General Journeyman Electrical License (EL-01)
· Completion of vocational education program in electrical, industrial electrical, or industrial training or Electrical Apprenticeship Program.
· Current Commercial Driver's License (CDL), including the necessary endorsements and without air brake restriction
