Electronic Technician-Automated Controls Spec Satellite Transit System
PURPOSE:
Perform maintenance, diagnostics and repair of automated vehicle controls, central system electronics, audio/dynamic-graphics messaging equipment, variable speed drives, various manufacturer PLC controls, RF system communication equipment, and other components that support the Satellite Transit System (STS). The STS is our Automated People Mover (APM) that transports passengers between the main terminal and two remote satellite concourses.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY, and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and duties performed. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Trouble-shooting, maintenance and repair of the Satellite Transit System operational controls, system recoveries following disruptions and coordinating the activities of support-craft personnel under some circumstances. Will be expected to assume a very high level of responsibility during system recoveries, interact with airline and airport representatives, the traveling public and others to effectively maintain a safe and controlled environment. This position will, at times, be called upon to stand in as the lead technician for a shift and will need to be able to manage maintenance and operations for the STS.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Must have extensive experience working with system-automation and associated controls for the maintenance, trouble-shooting and repair of complex electronic systems. Must be able to read and interpret schematics and system drawings. Must be knowledgeable in Relay, Electronic, Electrical and Mechanical theories. Candidates must be able to work both independently and with others in a diverse team environment. The position requires someone that can work with little supervision and respond with a sense of urgency when system problems occur. Experience in field service technical work on medium to large systems. Proficient troubleshooting and critical thinking skills are required in order to safely recover STS Service disruptions in a timely manner and minimize negative impacts on airport operations.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to successfully interact with airport personnel and the traveling public while returning downed systems or services back to normal operational status.
The candidate should be fully familiar with the use of oscilloscopes, VOMs, spectrum analyzers, RS485/422 and RS232 communication protocols, Windows-based networking using TCPIP, proper soldering practices and use of associated equipment and have very strong hand-tool mechanical skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Combination of education and experience demonstrative knowledge, skills and abilities equivalent to:
- Associate’s degree from a recognized electronic technical school, or a two year certificate from a recognized trade school showing completion of curriculum in support of an apprenticeship in an appropriate craft (electronics, instrument technician, industrial electricity/electronics, etc.), or equivalent military training and experience; and
- Five (5) years of recent and progressive experience working with system-based electronic controls and be able to troubleshoot complex systems down to the component level (hardware/software) as-necessary.
- Four year degree in Industrial Controls or completion of Trade School for support of heavy industrial controls, RF-based system communication/control, or Automated People Mover systems. Experience should demonstrate continuous and progressive levels of responsibility in any of these areas.
- Training or extensive experience with Modicon Quantum/Momentum and Allen Bradley SLC 500 PLC systems, Square D Impact 1336 adjustable frequency AC Drives, and variable speed DC drives with regenerative braking would be highly desirable.
