The Department of Physics in The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for the position of Research Engineer to provide support for research projects and course development and delivery of electronics for the Department of Physics, with emphasis on experimental work for research and instruction. This position reports to the Head of the Department of Physics.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide primary support to faculty and students for experimental physics projects
- Support development and operations of electronics for experimental groups in the department.
- Develop, test, and optimize firmware for experimental physics projects.
- Firmware design guidance and mentoring on behalf of graduate and undergraduate student and postdoctoral research associates.
- Course development and delivery
- Work with faculty to develop electronic courses in the department.
- Teach electronics components of the physics curriculum.
- Student training and document preparation
- Training of students in the use of equipment and instrumentation.
- Preparation of training documents and instructions.
- Other related duties
- Involvement in the preparation of laboratory manuals and other internal documents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Education:
- MS degree (or BS with equivalent experience) in an engineering or scientific field, plus at least two years of experience with FPGA firmware development.
Required Experience:
- Two years of experience with FPGA firmware development.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are a must.
Preferred Experience:
- Educations specialization in Electrical Engineering by background.
- General familiarity with laboratory, computer network operations, and multiple operating systems including Linux.
- Experience teaching and/or supervising students.
The Research Engineer position is a full-time, benefits-eligible academic professional position appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date. Applicants may be interviewed before the closing date; however, no hiring decision will be made until after that date. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
