Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare the layout of the project and estimate height, width, length and other proportions. Work with materials such as wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall. Measure, cut, or shape wood, plastic, and other materials. Construct building frameworks, including walls, floors, and doorframes. Inspect and replace damaged framework or other structures and fixtures. Utilize chisels, planes, saws, drills, and sanders to repair and erect structures. Join materials with nails, screws, staples, or adhesives. Work on top of stilts, ladders, and the top of beams of buildings. Use levels, rules, framing squares, and survey equipment to ensure everything is level and secure. Check work along the way to ensure it is up to code and specifications. Work with prefabricated buildings. Work with blueprints or instructions from supervisors. Measure and mark dimensions and reference lines on metal sheets. Drill holes in metal for screws, bolts and rivets. Install metal sheets with supportive frameworks. Fabricate or alter parts at construction sites. Anchor parts, fasten seems or joints by bolting, riveting, or soldering. Unload and stack pre-fabricated steel using a crane to lift beams, girders, and columns into place. Stand beams or grinders to help position pieces that are being lifted. Align beams and grinders into position. Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of the structural steel. Connect columns, beams, and grinders with bolts. Unload and stack prefabricated steel.
Knowledge and Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 5 year's experience in commercial building construction. Basic math skills in order to lay out, measure and mark guidelines on materials such as roofing panels with the use of calculators, dividers, scribes or rulers. Ability to use a wide range of hand tools and equipment. Able to lift heavy sheets onto roofs and move materials around. Perform other related duties as required.
