POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking a Deputy Officer to join our team of professionals

Duties Include:

  • Oversees the preparation of quarterly and annual FIU Health financial statements and annual budget, ensuring compliance with internal control procedures.
  • Directs and oversees the full range of administrative support functions, including procurement, contracts, assets, accounts payable, travel, expense reimbursements, catering and credit card program across the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM).
  • Serves as the Expense Manager for HWCOM responsible for approving all financial transactions such as Requisitions, Travel Authorization, Travel Reimbursement, Non-Travel Reimbursement, Voucher, Foundations Invoices, and Asset transfers/surplus.
  • Serves as the University's credit card approver for the college.
  • Manages internal and external audits to ensure regulatory compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Supports the HWCOM budgeting process, conducts in-depth financial analyses,
  • Duties Essential Function and prepares comprehensive financial reports for related DSOs.
  • Collaborates with the HWCOM financial leadership team, and other key stakeholders to align financial operations with HWCOM¿s goals and help deliver high quality financial outcomes.
  • Monitors cash flow and ensures the effective execution of the cash management strategy.
  • Develops operational infrastructure, analyzes current processes, and manages the development and implementation of financial operations procedures and/or policy changes to improve internal controls, efficiencies and promote compliance while ensuring sound financial operations practices.
  • Maintains the integrity of financial data through robust internal controls and best practices in accounting and financial reporting.
  • Prepares and presents quarterly and annual financial data that is presented to the FIU Health Care Network Leadership, Board of Directors, and Board of Trustees.
  • Oversees the information necessary to comply with all tax filing requirements for all Direct Support Organizations (DSOs).
  • Works closely with the FIU General Counsels Office and FIU Procurement in the management of the contract process, completeness of related documents and drafting of agreements and/or lead negotiator, when appropriate.
  • Assures policies and procedures of all the DSO's are properly approved, developed credit card processing, and consistent with Florida laws, rules and regulations.
  • Supervises staff members responsible for accounting and operations. Ensures controls, procedures and methodologies related to all banking and financial reporting functions are in place.
  • Displays solid knowledge of overall unit functions and exercises independent judgement in understanding business needs and developing solutions. Ensures the procurement process provides efficient solutions to meet the needs of faculty and staff while upholding all applicable policies and guidelines, to protect the business interests of HWCOM and the University.
  • Performs related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in an appropriate specialization and four years of experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate specialization and six years of experience.
