Community Outreach & Environmental Educational Specialist 2
(Working title: Ecological Conservation Program and Training Resource Manager)

Position Purpose 

This position manages program operation, education, training, tracking, and reporting for Sustainability in Prisons Project’s (SPP) Turtle, Butterfly, and Avian Acoustic Monitoring Ecological Conservation programs at Cedar Creek and Mission Creek Corrections Centers. The incumbent supervises Conservation Program Coordinators and manages program partnerships. The position is also responsible for reviewing and updating SPP’s operations systems, protocols, and trainings to improve resources for SPP and to adapt select materials for use by the broader, Evergreen Prison Education Program Network (EPEP).

As part of the SPP and EPEP teams, this position cultivates collaborations with diverse program partners to advance SPP and EPEP missions listed below:
SPP: We empower sustainable change by bringing science, nature, and environmental education into prisons.

EPEP: Our mission is to expand access to an Evergreen education and holistic support services for currently incarcerated and legally liberated people.

The position collaborates with an engaged community of incarcerated people, scientists, researchers, technicians, corrections professionals, program coordinators, faculty, staff, and students to provide impactful education and training and resolve complex program management issues. The incumbent demonstrates high value for equity and inclusion, empowering change, working across differences to increase access to education, and ability to consistently extend respect and compassion to all partners and interested parties.

This is a full-time, overtime eligible, project position on the Olympia Campus of The Evergreen State College and within Washington State Department of Corrections in facilities in Washington. This project position is funded through a legislative proviso and other resources through June 30, 2026, with continuation dependent of additional funding.

Salary and Benefits: $3,923 – $5,268 per month of full-time work + excellent benefits including paid sick and vacation leave; paid campus holidays; a generous medical, dental, life, and disability insurance package; and a tuition waiver program.
