Academic Advisor – Retention and Completion Specialist
Full Time, Exempt
Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Director for Student Advising and Support Services, the Academic Advisor – Retention and Completion Specialist will design and deliver effective programs and interventions to improve retention and completion rates for academically at-risk and underrepresented student populations.
The Academic Advisor will also support the general advising needs of the department by providing educational planning, career and transfer exploration and academic success support for students enrolled in Cascadia’s transfer programs. The advisor will deliver services to individual and group settings via in person, by telephone, email or video conference settings.
The successful applicant will have the following qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- One year experience working in a student services at a postsecondary institution
- Demonstrated commitment to and interest in diversity, equity and inclusion and the ability to support a multicultural workplace and educational environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Student Development Administration, Education, Counseling or relevant field from a regionally accredited college or university
- Two years of experience as an academic advisor, educational planner, career counselor or equivalent education and experience at a postsecondary institution
- Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing programs that promote retention and completion rates for traditional underrepresented student populations
- Demonstrated experience in data collection and analysis related to student success initiatives
- Experience using technology in the delivery of student development and advising services
- Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering relevant presentations to diverse audiences
